Bentley Latest Recall – What Is Happening?
Friday, 15. October 2010
I recently reported that a large number of recalls don’t get the level of publicity that they should after Toyota took a beating over the brake recalls but were then found not to hold the record for the most numbers of single model cars being recalled this year. However it was put into perspective recently when Bentley had to recall 300 UK cars. The major concern affected Arnage, Azure and Brooklands models built between October 2006 and October 2009. Globally more than 1400 cars were affected with owners being contacted. The reason for this relatively major recall – rust on the mechanism which retracts the flying B bonnet mascot. Yep, it’s true. But also dangerous as, health and safety states that standing bonnet mascots must disappear or fold flat so they don’t make a pedestrian accident worse. Bentley mechanics found that the mascots weren’t retracting as quickly as they should causing Bentley to make the recall. They’re in a different world! By Graham Hill
