This week the Graham Hill in depth review is a dribble over the Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing. It looks amazing! I could probably stop there as that’s probably all you need to know but for those that enjoy my in depth review here goes. It is a retro looking car but without seeming dated and is the current F1 safety car. With the doors open you think it looks as though it could fly if the driver took it up to 150 mph plus! New Wider Cars Are More Dangerous

Friday, 18. June 2010

Cars are getting wider and the question is being asked why? Are the manufacturers on a mission to increase replacement door mirrors after they are pretty much smashed to pieces after being clipped by an oncoming car, in ever tighter roads carrying bus lanes and cycle lanes? It certainly seems that way. Or is there another reason? No one seems to know, it is either a bit of subterfuge as I’ve suggested or are they all Read more »

New Driving Test Will Reduce Number Of Passes

Thursday, 17. June 2010

If you have a friend or family member likely to take their driving test this year they may need to get a move on and get it done by October when the test gets a lot tougher. The biggest change to the current test will be the need to drive the car around a town simply following road signs in order to promote ‘independent decision making’ in new drivers. This new part of the test is seen as ‘effortful, mentally demanding Read more »

Car Lead Times Get Worse

Wednesday, 16. June 2010

We recently had the Mercedes C63 AMG on offer. If you had ordered a car, which is partly hand built, it would have taken Mercedes about 10 weeks to get the car built and delivered to you. But in one of the worst examples of long delivery of a standard car one dealer recently quoted 20 weeks to deliver a standard VW Polo. This is partly because this particular dealer had used up his allocation but even dealers with Read more »

How Much Is A Jar Of Marmalade?

Tuesday, 15. June 2010

How much is a jar of marmalade? This is a serious question, do you know? Very few of us know the answer, mainly because there isn’t just one answer. I carried out a little experiment and found that I could buy a jar of marmalade for 69 pence. The most expensive jar I could find was £4.99, that’s a difference equating to 723%. Now not being expert on marmalade, although I do like a bit of thinly cut on a slice of brown Read more »

Should Cars Have More Failsafe Systems?

Monday, 14. June 2010

The recent problems experienced by Toyota have raised the question of safety in cars and should drivers and manufacturers be spending more time and effort on safety equipment than adjustable cup holders and refrigerated glove compartments (could never quite work that one out – cold gloves?). Clearly the answer is yes. There are more people travelling in cars than on aircraft but those piloting the planes are Read more »

The Real Disaster Of The Scrappage Scheme

Sunday, 13. June 2010

I don’t know why but every time someone starts to explain how wonderful the scrappage scheme was the hairs on the back of my neck start to bristle. The latest is Graham Hope, deputy editor of Auto Express. He says that whist not everyone was in favour of the scrappage scheme it brought ‘some benefits, not least its condemnation of thousands of death traps’. His comments are an introduction to an article about the Read more »

Great News About The Environment Will Halt Taxes On Motorists

Saturday, 12. June 2010

The new prime minister has suggested that he won’t pick on motorists to dig the country out of the deficit single handed – yeah right! To date we’ve had to accept that if we are to save the bit of atmosphere above the UK we must think green and therefore drive more fuel efficient and low CO2 emitting vehicles. The way the government has done this is to make us pay, obviously reluctantly but of course it’s for our own good Read more »
