Another report I mentioned earlier this year spoke about the likely move by drivers to winter or cold weather tyres following the severe weather last winter. Well the move has already started according to ATS Euromaster. No I don’t mean drivers are already fitting winter tyres in the middle of the summer. Orders are already being placed by ATS for winter tyres to the tune of £3 million. They already have forward Read more »

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago the dangers lurking in cars that could make drivers and passengers very ill. The point has now been re-iterated at a recent ACFO conference whereby the danger of catching Legionnaires disease, as a result of stagnant water in windscreen washer bottles, was mentioned but from the point of view of employer liability. According to the report creators, the Health Protection Read more »

How’s your breathing, do you suffer with hay fever? Well if your breathing has been affected recently it may not have been because of pollen. It seems that the European Commission has been threatening Britain with legal action for allowing more unhealthy PM10 particulate matter airborne pollution than permitted under EU legislation. Transport is a key source of PM10 pollutants. As a result the UK has been given 2 Read more »

There has been a big upsurge in thefts of cats. No, not fluffy pussies, this isn’t the RSPCA newsletter you know! No I’m talking about theft of catalytic converters. So do you know what clay is? No, dopey, not the stuff you make teapots out of , clay that you use on cars! OK I hadn’t heard of it either but apparently its amazing at cleaning car paintwork after the car has been washed but before you polish it (what’s that then?). It’s one of those secret products that valetting companies use to turn your 5 year old car into something that looks as if it has just come out of the showroom. Read more »

I can’t remember writing about the emissions based parking charges introduced by Richmond council in South West London although I seem to remember reading about it somewhere. Anyway, forget it as it’s just been scrapped. The scrapping of the scheme flies in the face of those that argue that local authorities and central Government use the ‘green argument’ as a means to screw more money out of the motorist when Read more »

The Graham Hill in depth review of a new car focuses on the all new Lotus Esprit this week. Following the re-introduction of the Lotus name into F1 motor racing Lotus are going through a big revival. Ever since I learned to drive I was always a big fan of Colin Chapman, the originator of the company and of course Graham Hill who drove a Lotus to F1 championship victory in 1968 so the new Esprit would have to Read more »

A friend of mine, who runs a chauffeur company, ordered a new Jaguar XJ which should have been delivered weeks ago. He is still waiting for delivery and has received terrible customer service. So I was surprised to see that Jaguar sold 295 in June (mind you there’s a big difference between selling and delivering) outselling the market leading executive Mercedes S Class as well as the BMW 7 Series. Mercedes sold 214 S Read more »
