Knowing What To Do When You Have Problems With An Insurer

Tuesday, 10. May 2011

In another Auto Express story a couple made an insurance claim after their car had been damaged in an accident whilst the car was unattended. As per the terms of the insurance they initially had to pay over £350 excess to get it back when the claim was finally sorted out. After 6 months the couple were still waiting to get their money back from Admiral, whose excuse was that they had farmed out the claim to a loss adjuster and everything was delayed as a result of several vehicles being involved. Just a minute, I have my car insured fully comp. someone smashes my car up whilst I’m away from it, I have lots of witnesses, I need the car repaired – how complicated is that?

Again, Auto Express got stuck in and well done as the cheque arrived a few days later but had the couple put in a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service, that covers insurance also, I can guarantee that the excess would have been refunded within a couple of days, not 6 bloody months!
