Graham Hill, Car Finance Expert, Warns About ‘Accidents To Order’

Tuesday, 6. April 2010

Warnings continue to increase about the numbers of ‘accidents to order’ where fraudsters stage an accident then put in an insurance claim for the damage caused to their vehicle as well as any passengers. Some are known to drive the car on behalf of the owner, swerving in front of another driver causing the accident. Details are exchanged and the details of the owner are given along with his insurance details to the innocent driver. The owner then claims that he was driving at the time and claims whiplash and other injuries that are difficult to prove, keeping the payout and passing over some of the money to his accomplice. Apparently, cars with company logos stuck on them are more desirable as there is a much greater chance that they will be fully covered by insurance and less likely an argument will take place. Be warned that even though the accident may be staged you will not get away with the claim against you and be responsible for some of the claim because, according to Hylton Triesman of Lewis Day Transport, ‘If you go into the back of someone, in law it’s your fault.’ Bloody ridiculous!
