Graham Hill Explains That Insurers Are Daft

Thursday, 3. November 2011

What is wrong with car insurers? Lots as it goes but one of the headings I’d lop a few under is daft. Let’s take the case of bogus smashes. The ones we read about all the time, known now as ‘cash for crash’ incidents, whereby an accident is staged by drivers resulting in a fraudulent claim. Now if you found a fraudulent claim occurring at say a roundabout or Read more »

Will The Speed Limit On Motorways Increase To 80mph?

Saturday, 29. October 2011

I just love the way that the press looks at a fact and pretty much turns it into fiction in an effort to make a headline. Lets take all the talk recently about raising the speed limit to 80mph from 70mph. Whilst 79% of company car drivers are in favour of the increase we hear all the arguments from the do-gooders that spout on about increase in accidents, Read more »

As I write this item we’re into the first day of the new registration and the first day of autumn, not that you’d notice after a terrible summer. But already I am reading about impending pot hole problems this winter, set to get worse after a Highways Agency rule change. The warning raised by the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) highlighted the rules Read more »

Tuesday, 2. August 2011

Injury lawyers are facing a severe crackdown by the Government. When someone is involved in an accident they are bombarded with no win no fee lawyers encouraging victims to make injury claims. They obtain details from the driver’s own insurance company who in turn receive commission fees for referring the injured driver who is making a Read more »

Police are to be given the power to issue on the spot fines for dangerous and reckless driving under plans revealed by Transport Secretary, Philip Hammond. This isn’t quite what it seems as it creates visions of the old bill stopping you for doing something silly, issuing you with a ticket and be expecting you to part with readies. The idea, expressed by Read more »

Your Sat Nav Could Be Grassing You Up To The Police

Monday, 30. May 2011

Very few of us would complain about speed cameras placed in areas where there are a lot of pedestrians, especially elderly and children, if they help to avoid accidents. What most of us object to is the placing of cameras where clearly they are only there to make money. So how would you feel if information from your sat nav was being sold to police to Read more »

Evidence shows that drivers are not attentive 66% of the time. This was revealed by Dr Nick Reed, senior researcher into human behaviour at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), at a seminar into driver distraction organised by road safety charity, Brake. If it wasn’t such a serious subject I could reveal a few distractions that could easily lead to Read more »

Official insignia of the European Court of Justice

If you are a woman driver expect your insurance premium to increase thanks to our Government. No I don’t mean the Cameron Clegg Coalition I mean our REAL rulers, the EU. The Court of Justice has ruled that charging drivers more because of their gender is wrong and considered discrimination. So charging men more than women was a practice that Read more »

Monday 20th December has turned out to be the worst day for insurance call outs this winter. Claims rose by 60% on the day. The treacherous conditions led to 500 separate cases being registered with the AA making it the second busiest day of all time. The busiest was 561 registered last January. On a normal Monday there are 330 calls. According to the AA drivers were slipping and sliding all over the place, running into lampposts, bollards, running up kerbs and colliding with other vehicles. And Read more »

Culprits Jailed After 93 Staged Smashes

Tuesday, 24. August 2010

Two brothers have finally been jailed after being found guilty of staging 93 smashes at Eden Point in Stockport in Cheshire. Is it me or don’t you think that a couple of alerts should have sprung up somewhere after half a dozen similar incidents happened at the same spot? Ninety bloody three – what was going on? The brothers, Rehan and Rezwan Javed ran North West Claims Centre in Burnley. They paid crooks £500 Read more »
