Would You Report Guests At Your Party For Drink Driving?

Thursday, 4. December 2008

With Christmas approaching attitudes are now changing towards drinking and driving according to the AA (that’s Automobile Association not Alcoholics Anonymous) who carried out a survey amongst motorists and found that two thirds would notify the police if someone they knew drove under the influence of alcohol. There is also likely to be a change in European law soon following a French case in which the hosts of a party knowingly allowed a guest who was drunk to get into his car and drive without attempting to stop him or report him to the police which resulted in a fatal accident. Whilst the couple hosting the party were acquitted there was a strong call for a change in European law which is expected to happen. The police have warned that again they will step up their breath testing this year in particular morning after testing when cyclists and pedestrians are in more danger than at night. So my usual warning is don’t drink and drive and have a safe Christmas. By Graham Hill
