Having a bigger than standard car will cost you more to park in future, if you’re parking in Wyre in Lancashire. If your car is too big to fit into a single car space or if you are a lazy driver taking up more than one space you will now be expected to pay double. If not you will be penalised. Wyre County Council formalised what local wardens have been Read more »

Back in July 2009 I posted the following on my blog, under the heading of ‘If you have guaranteed a debt you may be able to avoid payment’. I’ve repeated the blog below as I believe it is worth showing again, given the current economic climate but also I have uncovered something else that may be a little worrying if you have guaranteed a debt and the Read more »

I know I’m past having to worry about my kids having to insure their first car at 17 but I still feel the pain, and even more so today, when premiums of several thousands of pounds are asked for on cars costing a few hundreds. According to the AA the average policy for a 17-22 year old is £3,000. As a result I’ve had a trawl around to see what Read more »

If you have had a lease quote from me recently you will probably have had a quote including maintenance, even though you may not have asked for it, especially for cars on low annual mileage. This is because a couple of the leasing companies have gone back to the days of trying to encourage drivers to have their cars serviced on time by making Read more »

Having recently had a run-in with Zurich over what should have been a very simple claim following an accident with my laptop, more of this in greater detail later as I might end up going to court with them, it would now seem that you are more than likely seen as guilty in an accident and end up having to prove your innocence. So it might be useful, if Read more »

Have you heard of log book loans? Do you know what they are? As more people find themselves out of work and desperate to raise some cash to pay bills or attend interviews they are looking at some of these grey areas of raising cash. There are of course the loan sharks that everyone should avoid but there is one area that seems to have an air of Read more »

When my son changed his phone to enable him to gain access to the Internet he had the choice of two phones at the time (going back a few years). The first was considered a bit of a toy and was an iPhone. The other was a Blackberry. He asked lots of questions and did his own research. The iPhone certainly seemed popular and it had some clever apps on Read more »

My car review this week is the new BMW 4Series. We will see it in 2012 but I have to say I’m not particularly inspired. I’m a lover of BMW’s but after losing the plot with the X6 they’ve now set their sights on a mini looking version based on the 3 Series. It’s a 5Dr Coupe which I thought might be an exciting proposition but it isn’t a patch on the Mercedes E Read more »

As I reported before anyone else Autoquake are now in administration and the administrators are trying to find buyers. One of the selling points, as has been widely reported is the number of visits made to their website, believed to be around 5.5 million last year. I have to stay that statistic is absolutely meaningless because if it meat that the company was successful why has it just collapsed? It’s a bit like saying you could put any shop in the middle of a high street which attracts lots of ‘traffic’ Read more »

This year has been a bit of a struggle for many industry sectors but not so much for the motor industry. Following the scrappage scheme it was expected that the motor industry would contract and dealerships close, something I personally didn’t think would happen. In anticipation of a potential downturn the manufacturers started to scale down production in 2008/9, some would say too far, as virtually every new car drifted out to long delivery lead times as demand remained relatively high. This Read more »
