Going Green – The Easy Way

Wednesday, 11. November 2009

Trying to get everyone to go green overnight and buy electric cars will simply not work. The view is now to take a piecemeal approach and start by getting people gradually into more fuel efficient cars that kick out fewer CO2’s. Drivers should first be made more aware of cleaner driving practices. Knocking 10% off your cruising motorway speed can improve fuel consumption along with controlled braking and less Read more »

Are Electric Cars Really The Way Forward?

Thursday, 27. August 2009

First Hybrid cars that mix n match petrol power with battery power and now all electric cars, heavily supported by prime minister Mandleson, that will save the planet and will be the future, must have, green accessory! Oh no it won’t! Well not if the already frugal Citroen C1, modified by the Electric Car Corporation, continues to cover just 70 miles on a full battery and at a cost of £16,850, twice the cost of the standard petrol version. No way Jose? Having said that Read more »

What Is BlueMotion, Is It A Hybrid?

Wednesday, 5. August 2009

What is BlueMotion, is it a hybrid? We are seeing the emergence of the colour blue as a replacement for the far less attractive green as an expression of environmental friendliness! Why? I don’t know but in terms of German cars – no it doesn’t define a new type of hybrid engine. Instead VW’s BlueMotion and Mercedes Blue Efficiency are simply terms they have started to use to describe the ultra efficient nature of their cars. By incorporating stop/start technology or systems that heavily Read more »

Are Electric Cars Really The Way To Save The Environment?

Thursday, 23. July 2009

Considering the latest announcements relating to electric car production and the government emphasising its efforts to support electric cars by increasing incentives it was a bit of a surprise to hear Bosch announce that petrol and diesel cars will be by far the most dominant vehicles for the next 20 years. They went on to explain that this would be due to planned improvements that are due to take place in the internal combustion engine and as a result of an insufficient understanding of technology which has led to unrealistic forecasts about electric vehicles. Dr Bernd Bohr, chairman of Bosch Automotive group, predicted that Read more »

Change Your Tyres Before The Price Hike

Saturday, 7. February 2009

Tyres are on the move! Increasing in cost that is. The sudden jump in the cost of crude oil last year followed by the drop in value of sterling resulted in a continued increase in the cost of the raw materials that are used to manufacture tyres. This has meant that prices increased by 20% over recent months with the industry warning that prices will rise even further during 2009. Kwik Fit Fleet say they are expecting some Read more »

Biofuel Can Be Very Dangerous

Sunday, 18. January 2009

On the question of fuel, if you have been convinced that bio fuel is a much better option and your car is still covered by the manufacturers warranty you should check to see if using bio fuel affects your warranty. Unlike the EU it has ruled that each country can set its own levels of biodiesel concentration and that there is no mandatory need to label fuel at the filling stations. It is well known that a concentration of over Read more »

Save Money On Fuel On Motorways

Tuesday, 9. September 2008

Yet another suggestion as to how you can reduce your fuel costs – don’t fill up at motorway services unless it’s an emergency, then only put in the bare minimum to get you to where you want to be and find a supermarket forecourt. The average price of motorway fuel is 10 pence per litre more than supermarkets which adds about £5.50 to a tank full of fuel according to Read more »

Fuel Stations To Give Advice On Fuel Efficiency

Monday, 8. September 2008

A campaign, involving more than 45,000 petrol stations across Europe, has started to distribute leaflets advising drivers how to increase fuel efficiency. The Save More Than Fuel Campaign is being led by the European Petrol Industry Association – Europia with the support of the EC. Of course it is – and I’ll be advising clients shortly as to how they can avoid cars altogether by riding a bike or taking public transport! As if! Duh! By Graham Hill

Trips To Work Take Longer

Monday, 11. August 2008

More than half of motorists believe their commute to work has got longer according to a poll carried out by Motorpoint. It found that motorists spend more time than ever behind their wheel during the rush hour wasting their time and using up a record amount of fuel getting to work. David Shelton, managing director of Motorpoint said ‘With the prospect of congestion charging becoming commonplace, getting to work is likely to become more expensive.’ Bit obvious that one David, maybe your comment was taken out of context! Chip Oil Theft On The Increase As Fuel Increases In The US.

Tuesday, 1. July 2008

You couldn’t make this up. Apparently in the USA where fuel prices have rocketed to about 30p per litre, thefts of fast food fryer oil has run out of control. It is now being traded on the commodity markets at $2.50 a gallon. The oil can be turned into fuel for cars and trucks using a conversion kit. Recently, police arrested a man for stealing Read more »
