Scrappage Extended, Newer Cars Qualify

Friday, 9. October 2009

After King Mandelson announced that he would not, under any circumstances, extend the scrappage scheme, which was a bit of a relief to all of us hoping for some substantial bonuses from the manufacturers for the last quarter of the year, the one with the white hair and bushy black eyebrows stood up at the labour conference and announced that the scheme was being extended by another 100,000 cars. Must have caused a bit of friction between him and His Highness but more to the point it means that the bonuses are back in the melting pot as the manufacturers shove £1,000 per car into their mini, micro city cars that people are generally swapping their Ford Sierras and Austin Allegros for under the scrappage scheme. For those that are vaguely interested in the scrappage scheme it has now been extended by a further £100 million and includes cars registered before 29/02/2000. By Graham Hill
