Is Your Licence Out Of Date?

Sunday, 13. September 2009

Do you have a photo licence? If you do how long have you had it because if it is over or close to 10 years you will need to update the photo or face a fine of up to £1,000. In a poll carried out by Fleet News it was found that 24% of those questioned didn’t know that there was a requirement to renew the photograph, they thought it lasted as long as the paper counterpart. Many companies that are responsible for checking the licences of their drivers were not aware of this requirement either. Whilst I am told that it is not illegal to drive a vehicle if the photo has expired or your new address is not shown both are still offences and carry a fine of up to £1,000. Reminders are sent out by the DVLA but they will only get to you of course if you are still living where you were 10 years ago or have advised the DVLA of a change of address. Bit of a double edged sword that one. By Graham Hill
