What Colour Car Is Most Likely To Be Stolen?
Saturday, 14. June 2008
If you are a regular reader of my newsletter you will know how I love the way the press and various bodies roll out statistics that are totally meaningless but are meant to enlighten us drivers – well I have a great set of stats this week which may well change your mind over the colour of the next car you will drive. Apparently white cars are more likely to be stolen than any other colour according to someone who has access to the police national computer and far too much time on mis hands! And even better, the day the theft is most likely to happen is a Monday! It gets better still, black is rapidly becoming the most popular new car colour to be stolen and is overall running in third place. Silver was the most popular new car colour to be stolen before being overtaken by black but now silver is the third least likely colour to be stolen (yawn!). I won’t bore you with all the details, apparently white is popular as it is easiest to re-spray and on a serious note 2 cars are stolen every minute in the UK. The survey was actually carried out by the Royal Automobile Club Foundation and Retainagroup. The reason why car thefts over the weekend seem low then peak on a Monday could be that drivers who don’t use their cars over the weekend only discover the theft on a Monday. The important advice here is to visibly mark the car with a unique code as apparently this does tend to put off the car thieves.
