Top Selling Makes and Marques This Year

I was recently in a meeting when someone announced the fact that as we emerge from the recession there will be a lot of ‘positive negative’ news about. I instantly thought of him as funny farm fodder and expected him to be carted off at any moment by men in white coats forcing him into one of those tailored jackets whose sleeves tie up at the back. Positive negative news indeed, what a nutter, until I started to read positive negative news all over the place. The latest example started off with a headline ‘Fleet Shows Signs Of Life’, pretty positive news headline in Business News. Are there more company cars being bought? Well, not exactly, it seems that in September fleet sales were down by 13.8% on September 2008. So you may assume that this is bad news but you would be wrong because annual sales are down by 25.1% so in fact this drop in sales for September is much less and therefore positive negative news. Just proving that my colleague wasn’t bonkers after all – untie his arms now please! For the anoraks, Ford top the sales list, quite closely followed by Vauxhall, surprising given the recent problems experienced by GE. Next is VW followed by BMW, Audi and Peugeot. 7^th place went to Citroen, 8^th Toyota, 9^th Nissan and in tenth place Mercedes. In terms of models top two slots went to the Ford Focus and the face lifted Ford Fiesta. Vauxhall took places 3 & 4 with Astra and Corsa with VW hot hatching into 5^th place with the Golf. Anorak mode over. Did I mention that the Aston Martin Vantage came in at 6^th place in terms of sales? If I did I was lying but it grabbed your attention eh! By Graham Hill
