The Secret Of Leasing – Amazing Video

Tuesday, 27. October 2009

We have a unique and totally different method of leasing in the UK compared to the US and to make matters worse few people in the UK actually understand how it works. On numerous occasions I’ve had conversations with customers who have explained to me they have negotiated a great deal with a dealer and could I work out a lease for them based on their negotiated price. The problem is that this isn’t Read more »

DVLA Issue Incorrect Driving Licences

Thursday, 15. October 2009

If you have had reason to have your driving licence updated because of a change of address or your licence has run out of date (don’t forget that the new photo licences only last for 10 years), you need to check it for any omissions. The DVLA have admitted that some licences have been returned with errors, in particular entitlements such as the entitlement to drive a motorcycle. One would think that the solution was simple Read more »

Dangers Of Oil Prices Being Measured In Euros And Not US Dollars

Thursday, 8. October 2009

For those that like to worry I have some great news that may cause more problems for the US finances than the collapse of Lehman Brothers. Apparently the oil states are considering dumping the dollar as its currency against which to measure oil prices. Favourite to replace the dollar is the Euro, a bit of a bugger for those who have always fought against the single currency, followed by Read more »

US Scrappage Scheme Has More Government Money

Saturday, 15. August 2009

The American version of our scrappage scheme, called over the pond, ‘cash for clunkers’ proved so popular that they ran out of cash within a week and have just had a second tranche of money approved. According to the New York Times the first $1 billion was used up in the first week and a further $2 billion has just been approved. I covered their scheme a few weeks ago, which offers a much greater incentive to consumers looking to replace their gas guzzling clunker with a slightly Read more »

Drink Driving Proposals To Upset Drinkers

Wednesday, 18. February 2009

A recent poll showed that 61% of motorists would not welcome a drop of acceptable drink driving levels from 80mg to the more common 50mg but that is probably because of the draconian punishment handed out if over the limit. If you are guilty of driving even slightly over the limit in the UK you are automatically facing a 12 month ban whilst in some countries in the EU the chances of being caught in the first Read more »

Employers Consider Home Working To Save Vehicle Costs

Tuesday, 10. February 2009

In an effort to reduce car usage, the Government and indeed all parties led by the Greens tried to encourage more people to work from home. Whilst there was a small increase at the time latest statistics show that the number of employees working from home has stalled since 2002. Just 3% of workers work from home although 7% do so at least once a week. These results were recently reported in the 2008 National Read more »

What The Car Industry Really Needs To Survive

Wednesday, 21. January 2009

As car manufacturers continue to beat a path to the Chancellor’s door I ask myself what they are going to ask for? We already know that cars in the UK are overpriced so why not cut prices in order to stimulate sales. On the other hand, as Lord Mendelson has suggested, it is the funding that needs to be looked at in order to make it possible and affordable for the public and small businesses to drive new cars and Read more »

Government Help For Car Industry Is Misdirected

Sunday, 11. January 2009

I’m confused! I could understand the bailout of the banks, we can’t allow the banking system to collapse. And whilst the VAT cut was never going to have a significant effect on the economy in terms of kick starting expenditure it was a small step in the right direction but why are the Government listening to the car manufacturers? Of course it’s terrible when people lose their jobs and making loyal and good workers redundant is one of the hardest things Read more »
