Staged Accidents Reaching Epidemic Proportions In Certain Areas

Thursday, 16. October 2008

There are calls to introduce a new law against those staging accidents and making insurance claims, often making claims for injuries to passengers not in the car at the time of the accident. Fraudsters are hiring cars, finding lone drivers, normally women – getting in front of them and slamming on their brakes causing an accident. They sometimes even get cash from the other driver for damage caused to the hire car. Fears that this is reaching epidemic proportions have caused calls from the fleet industry to take action. The top 10 fraud hotspots are:

  1. Bradford
  2. Birmingham
  3. Liverpool
  4. Blackburn
  5. Oldham
  6. Bolton
  7. Manchester
  8. East London
  9. Southall
  10. Luton

So be extra vigilant if you are driving around these areas. As one commentator explained, by targeting women there is a higher likelihood of a baby being in the car. The fraudsters won’t know if there is a baby in the car and don’t seem to care. Something has to be done before a real tragedy occurs. By Graham Hill
