Radios Are Going Digital As Well As TV’s

Wednesday, 10. February 2010

It’s quite amazing that whilst most of us are aware that we have to convert our TV over to digital by either buying a digital TV or buying a Freeview box that enables us to watch digital TV on our old sets, few actually understand that there is a similar problem looming with our radios. 2012 is the switchover to digital TV but we have just 5 years before the analogue radio signal is cut off in the UK so it’s shocking that so few cars are being built with digital audio broadcasting (DAB) radios as standard. DAB is amazing technology, it enables you to re-wind a show and pause it if you need to jot down a name, phone number or web address. In the US GM fits it as standard in its cars but over here the equivalent costs £150. Why do we always have to be the poor relations? Come on you manufacturers pull your digitals out and lets see DAB fitted as standard on all cars and it it’s not standard on your next car it might be worth considering the cost of upgrade.
