New Way To Cut Travel Costs

Monday, 27. October 2008

A free website was launched earlier in the year aimed at reducing carbon emissions and increasing the efficient use of taxis. The website is www.emptycabs.com . The website is a free message board where anyone looking to book a taxi, to an airport for example, can be put in touch with a cab that already has a booking to pick up from that airport. Half of long distance taxi trips are made with no passengers so by putting both parties in touch the drivers are able to recoup some of their rising fuel costs and the passenger receives a reduced fare. Sounds like a good idea but not sure how practical it is – time will tell! By Graham Hill
