New Insurance Legislation You MUST Know

Insurance rules are about to change as a result of proposed legislation that is going through the consultative stage. If introduced it will become an offence simply to keep an uninsured vehicle as opposed to the current legislation that makes it an offence to drive an uninsured vehicle. Road safety minister, Jim Fitzpatrick, said ‘Increased police powers already mean that 400 uninsured vehicles are seized every day but these tough new measures will leave uninsured drivers with nowhere to hide. The DVLA will be working alongside the insurance industry to identify vehicles that are uninsured. The keeper will then receive a letter explaining that he has a limited time in which to get the car insured or face a fine. If the keeper fails to insure the vehicle they will be given a £100 fine. If the vehicle remains uninsured, irrespective of whether the fine was paid or not, it can be seized and destroyed. By Graham Hill
