Hoax Threat To Women Causes Concern
Monday, 6. September 2010
There was a hoax warning email sent out at the end of last year and it seems to be doing the rounds again so I’m mentioning it. Not because I necessarily believe that there is any truth in the warning but because it may in fact have the opposite effect of giving an idea to some of the more dangerous criminal minds out there and could result in attacks on innocent women in particular. The warning suggested that criminal types were planting baby seats at the side of rural roads with a blanket covering them, some with blood splattered over them, and some with even a dummy baby in them. I should say that after carrying out some checks myself I have found no police evidence that any such incidents have occurred. However, the warning suggested that women may stop to investigate and find themselves subject to attack, that could result in rape, robbery, beating and even murder. The warning, whilst aimed at women whose maternal instinct would put them at risk, also warned men who could be beaten and robbed. Whilst there is no evidence of such attacks, with the increase in staged accidents and other criminal activity on drivers and their cars all drivers should be warned not to stop or even slow down but to get somewhere safe and call the police to report the incident. This applies to anything suspicious, especially in rural areas where there is no or little lighting and close to wooded areas or enclosed fields. If you know of anyone who has been attacked as a result of stopping to investigate something suspicious please let me know? By Graham Hill
