Dopey Gadget Of The Week Award Goes To Rolls Royce

Friday, 28. May 2010

Time for this week’s dopy gadget award! It has to go to Rolls Royce and their first iPhone app that allows you to configure your £195,000 Ghost via the free to download app. You will be able to use it on your iPhone or iPod Touch and configure the car of your choice selecting the colour from 12 options along with 3 different wheel styles, visible exhausts (don’t ask) and a contrasting satin silver bonnet. Inside there are 8 leather finishes and 5 wood veneer options. Once you have created your perfect car you can save it to your virtual garage. It even has a dealer search option. Now I may be a bit daft but I would suggest that the market for Rolls Royce Ghosts is fairly small so creating this app seems a bit pointless as most potential buyers would want to design the car whilst quaffing a glass of Bolly at the dealership’s expense whilst sitting in a luxurious showroom being totally pampered. So it will serve them right when 16 year olds phone up and request a test drive in the car they’ve just designed during mid morning break on the iPhone they got for their birthday or nicked from their dad. Good grief! By Graham Hill
