Car Parking Payable By Mobile Phone

Monday, 2. February 2009

It looks as though things are happening to make it easier and cheaper to park in our towns and cities although hopefully we won’t be following the French who have a much greater problem with parking than we do. So they are introducing intelligent parking meters linked to the parking bays. The clever French get the meters to assess whether a driver has exceeded his allotted time and if so an alert is sent to the police. It’s all done with magnetic fields apparently. The police control is alerted which in turn alerts the police on their mobile phones. This is unlikely to happen in the UK although local authorities are looking at ways for drivers to pay electronically via their mobile phone (already available in some areas) and you pay for just the time you are parked, a great idea.
