Beware Of Dealer Leasing

Friday, 18. September 2009

Just recently manufacturer’s own finance arms have been competing head on with the major leasing specialists such as Lex, Lombard etc. In some cases this has put off customers from using brokers and, as a result, going direct to dealers. This can be dangerous because if you use a broker, who has been in the industry for sometime, such as me, we know which dealers to use in order to get you a good deal and earn a little commission ourselves. It is also true that in the case of certain manufacturers the cars are returned to the dealer at the end of the contract and he is responsible for selling the car and/or inspecting the car at the end of the contract for excessive wear and tear or damage. If this were the case with one of my supplying dealers they would be far more tolerant with my clients than they would be with a client who was a one off and had dealt with them direct. I have a good working relationship with my suppliers so if they want continued business they will not try to impose excessive charges through the leasing company on my clients. It’s a good way to do business and there’s the added benefit of not having to deal with a car salesman – I do! By Graham Hill
