New Traffic Light Sequence Aimed At Stopping Speeders

Now here’s a dopey idea if ever I’ve seen one set to get the blood boiling of road users in Swindon in Wiltshire. If you are a tear ass racer speeding toward the new traffic lights they will change to red super quick in order to slow you down. The idea may seem quite good unless you happen to be a steady Eddie driving nicely within the speed limit only to find yourself stopping at every set of traffic lights because some mad bugger is constantly racing up behind you causing the lights to change every 2 seconds after turning to green.
Imagine the traffic lights a few hundred yards from the car park of the local college as the lunatics race home to get onto Facebook and Playstation, as the lights turn green, by the time you engage first gear, let off the handbrake and check your rear view mirror the bloody lights will be back at red!
The scheme will be piloted in September although there are no plans to catch the speeding drivers and fine them. In Swindon their speed traps were abandoned in 2009, this is an alternative to try to calm down aggressive road users. What do you think? Personally I’ll be avoiding Swindon! By Graham Hill
