I know I’m past having to worry about my kids having to insure their first car at 17 but I still feel the pain, and even more so today, when premiums of several thousands of pounds are asked for on cars costing a few hundreds. According to the AA the average policy for a 17-22 year old is £3,000. As a result I’ve had a trawl around to see what Read more »

When trying to make up your mind between taking a new car on a lease or a used car on standard HP/PCP it becomes quite a complex calculation because in many ways you are dealing with the unknown, certainly when taking a used car.Even on the most basic car if an engine management system fails you can be set back around £1,200, or if an ABS pump Read more »

Anyway, if you like a bit of quality premium Nappa leather covering your seats you may be in for a bit of a shock soon with the increased cost of Nappa over standard, bum itching leather. It follows Read more »

To continue with the tips. There’s nothing worse than driving on a mucky road following a thaw and the washer fluid is frozen, again it’s illegal if you can’t see out of the windscreen. Coolant is another item that needs to be addressed. The correct concentration is essential if you are to avoid freezing. The coolant also acts as a lubricant and prevents Read more »

What should you do if you are stuck in the snow or on an icy road? First of all get yourself down to Halfords, Wilkinson or other DIY centre and get yourself a travel/snow spade to carry around in the back of your car. So often you see a little pile of snow in front of the drive wheels after clearing the snow off the screens and the driver then attempts to Read more »

If you drive too hard into a corner you will experience what is called ‘understeer’, you lose front end grip and the vehicle continues on instead of turning the corner. The problem here is that drivers will generally apply more lock, turn the steering wheel even more into the corner, it is a natural reaction. This actually makes the situation worse as Read more »
