Rip off Britain is still alive and well and currently living in the diesel fuel pumps! In January the cost of diesel was 51.1 pence per litre (ppl), according to the National Statistics Office. In February it rose slightly Read more »

My gadget of the week is in fact an additive of the week. With fuel costs increasing daily (well it seems that way) a few additives have entered the market claiming to improve your car’s performance, improve fuel consumption and reduce CO2 output. One of these is called Mergi and is described by the manufacturer as ‘Magic in a bottle and helps you get Read more »

Let me tell you a story about an accountant who used to introduce clients to me about 12 years ago. He was a Chartered Accountant and according to the charter he couldn’t be paid a fee for arranging anything financial for his client. In other words if he had recommended a client to a financial advisor, who in turn arranged a pension or a Read more »

Following on from my campaign to remove number plates from used car adverts online, something considered unnecessary by so called experts, the police reported that £500,000 of fuel was stolen from forecourts in the London area last year by cars fitted with false number plates. Maybe time for a re-think! Have you had your car number plate cloned and received a call from the old bill or a fine that isn’t yours? Let us know? By Graham Hill

Something I’ve reported upon before is the increase in fuel theft but with the latest increase in cost at the pumps the number of thefts is increasing again. Farmers, heating oil and tankers have long been the targets of organised thieves but with an average family car holding around 60 litres of fuel this can represent about £80 (more if diesel) to regular Read more »

I reported recently on clocking, it would seem that others are reading my blogs as the Office of Fair Trading has issued a report that reveals there are more than 50 firms in the UK selling mileage correction (clocking) services. As a result they have called on the Government to act and close the loophole that enables these companies to quite legally reset a Read more »

If you thought you were going to get a great deal on a Mercedes or a BMW you can pretty much forget it! Sales for both German manufacturers were up by more than 30% at the beginning of the year. Whilst most of this increase was into fleet buyers it has meant that the crazy deals that we saw in 2007/8 have not had to be repeated to increase sales. Read more »
