Employer Responsibilities When Staff Work From Home

Saturday, 30. January 2010

Business Insurance specialists Premierline warned employers that when they allow employees to work from home they are still responsible for their welfare in the same way, I guess, as employees that use their own cars for company business. According to the Department for Labour the employer has the same responsibilities as he would for any other employee at work. Whilst it is accepted that some controls are Read more »

Potholes Continue To Get Worse As Authorities Leave Them

Tuesday, 26. January 2010

Following the bad weather there have been reports from all over the country that pot holes, some the size of a small cave, have opened up on not just minor and B roads but also on A roads. Even some motorways have some nasty craters on them as I experienced a few evenings ago on the M25. This is clearly the result of budget cuts and either Bodgit and co – road workers carrying out the work or those gentle folk that Read more »

Named Drivers On Car Insurance May Not Be Covered

Saturday, 23. January 2010

When a driver takes out a fully comprehensive insurance policy he is probably aware that when the policy states that he is insured to drive any vehicle provided he has the owner’s permission he is usually only covered for the basic requirements under the Road Traffic Act 1988, ie. cover against third party only. However, few are aware that this cover does not extend to named drivers, they are only insured to drive the car on which they have named driver cover. Check your policy carefully before driving any vehicle. By Graham Hill

How To Avoid A Fixed Penalty

Friday, 22. January 2010

Some people believe that when a ticket is issued with incorrect information, such as your name spelt incorrectly or the car registration transposed that you can avoid prosecution. I seem to recall when I was first driving that this was the case but these days it is more difficult to get away with a prosecution as a result of what a court would consider to be a clerical error. If you genuinely believe that you or your Read more »

London Congestion Charge Changes

Friday, 8. January 2010

For those that have to drive within the congestion charge zone in London and currently receive the daily discount of £1, given to those who are on business and are part of a minimum fleet of 10 vehicles and provided the vehicle has been registered under the London Fleet Auto Pay scheme, the rules are about to change. In the past all you had to do was enter the registration number and the name of the registered owner and Read more »

The Dangers Of Credit File Footprints

Wednesday, 6. January 2010

The House of Commons Treasury Select Committee has been looking into credit reference agency ‘footprints’. A footprint is created each time a credit search is made on a person or business recorded by the credit reference agencies. Over the last few years car finance comparison sites have cropped up on the internet with some very shady providers freely advertising on them. A common routine is to Read more »

Guide To Avoid Back Problems For Drivers

Tuesday, 22. December 2009

I’ve spoken about back problems before and mentioned the potential dangers faced by employers who choose cars for employees, considered unfit for purpose, in my book ‘An Insider Guide To Car Finance.’ However the University of Loughborough, whose research into driver back problems I mentioned recently, have issued some guidance for drivers and employers when selecting cars that will be used for Read more »

Car Choice Could Increase Back Problems

Saturday, 19. December 2009

As companies make redundancies it is likely that drivers will have to cover larger territories, drive for longer periods and cover greater distances. The fear is that back problems will increase rapidly and lead to more sickness. With Bluetooth connection and auxiliary power outlets in cars it is now possible for company cars to be used as mobile offices causing more workers to be sitting in them to work. The Read more »

Drink & Drugs Legislation To Be Reviewed In 2010

Friday, 18. December 2009

The Government has announced a review into drink and drugs legislation to be reported in March 2010. Secretary of State for Transport, Lord Adonis, has appointed Sir Peter North to investigate the issues with a view to considering a reduction in drink drive limits and new drug-driving legislation. There were 430 drink driving related deaths last year. The review will investigate the suggestion that a lower limit Read more »

Whiplash Injury Could Be Reduced By Adjusting Head Rests

Wednesday, 16. December 2009

There are over 1,100 whiplash claims every day, how incredible is that? Not surprising that next year Ministry of Justice reforms will aim to speed through claims when the claims are between £1,000 and £10,000, reduced down from 60 days to 15 days. As we all know whiplash is one of the most fraudulent claims that motorists make but for those that actually suffer whiplash it can affect mobility for the rest of their life Read more »
