Changes To Driving Licences Announced

Thursday, 11. August 2011

The Department for Transport is about to make us all paperless when it comes to our driving licences. In 2014 the paper part of the latest driving licences will be scrapped, which isn’t a bad thing as most people manage to lose them anyway. The old style licences will be scrapped soon after to be replaced with the photocard versions. The DVLA is Read more »

Credit Underwriting In The UK Needs A Re-Think

Wednesday, 10. August 2011

The credit system in the UK is in need of a really good shake up. Credit decisions seem to be made based on some very iffy information and totally illogical. Take two people doing similar jobs, earning the same amount of money who both apply for credit on similar cars. The first client has a perfect, unblemished record. He has a mortgage and a couple of Read more »

Heart Attacks From Diesel Fumes?

Saturday, 6. August 2011

Edinburgh University has carried out a study into the effects of diesel fumes with some not so good results. They have found that after exposing volunteers to diesel fumes containing particles over a long period it led to blood clots forming in arteries that could lead to heart attacks or strokes. So whilst CO2 emissions are less with diesel the Read more »

Delayed New Car Deliveries Cause Part Exchange Problems

Tuesday, 2. August 2011

Now here’s an interesting scenario. As I’ve widely reported over the last 18 months or so deliveries of new cars have become a nightmare. All too often the dealer has called and said that delivery has been delayed not just by a couple of weeks but in some cases months. In most cases we’ve been able to get around the problem by extending the current Read more »

Government To Crackdown On Passing Of Info To Injury Lawyers

Tuesday, 2. August 2011

Injury lawyers are facing a severe crackdown by the Government. When someone is involved in an accident they are bombarded with no win no fee lawyers encouraging victims to make injury claims. They obtain details from the driver’s own insurance company who in turn receive commission fees for referring the injured driver who is making a Read more »

Car Finance Fraud Encouraged By Lack Of Policing

Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder

Image via Wikipedia

I travel quite a lot on the M25 and the M40 and see someone pulled over for speeding on nearly every trip, or should I say I used to. Just recently I have hardly seen any at all. I guess this must be as a result of Government cutbacks. It would also seem that fewer stolen cars are being found before being shipped out of the country because of Government Read more »

Consumer Protection When Garages Don’t Fix Faults First Time

Sunday, 31. July 2011

Years ago, when I always bought used cars, and had a mechanical problem I used to dread going into a garage and explaining the fault because I knew I would be met by a sharp intake of breath by the mechanic and ‘Do you want me to do a quick bodge job or do you want me to sort it out properly?’ After which he would explain the problem in technical Read more »
