Leasing Easier To Underwrite Than HP For Businesses

Wednesday, 3. March 2010

Small businesses are finding it more difficult to finance vehicles using their traditional and most popular methods of finance, HP, business loans and overdraft. It seems that more are now turning to leasing, according to Fleet News, as it is easier to arrange the finance, reduces the risk and spreads the funding around. Last year, according to the Finance and Leasing Association (FLA), financing new and used cars to Read more »

End Of Lease Charges, The Sun Joins The Fight

Tuesday, 2. March 2010

I am grateful to Jo Tacon, Editor of the journal Motor Finance for which I write a regular (and clearly the most popular) column. Jo forwarded a couple of articles that appeared in the Sun newspaper, written by Kelvin MacKenzie. In the articles he complains about the end of contract charges imposed upon him by Mercedes Benz Finance (MBF) after returning his end of lease car. The charge was £1,800 and I Read more »

Extending Leases Can Be Costly!

Monday, 1. March 2010

Hindsight is great isn’t it? We can identify exactly where we went wrong and occasionally where we went right! When the recession started to bite, many businesses and individuals, who were leasing their cars and due to change, decided to extend their leases. Not such a bad thing if the lease was only 2 years in the first place but many of those that extended from 3 years to 4 years have maybe regretted that decision. And Read more »

Improved Executive Used Car Prices May See Lease Rates Improve

Sunday, 28. February 2010

As we can see from my BMW 7 Series deal of the week, things are starting to improve at the big end of the market. In a prestige, sporting and executive auction held at British Car Auctions in Nottingham 300 dealers attended with 216 bidding online resulting in top models achieving 114% of CAP clean price (that’s trade value to you and me). The rest made 100-104% which is excellent considering the fact that last year the Read more »

Scrappage Ending But No Improvement To Lease Rates

Thursday, 25. February 2010

The new car market is in total confusion. As the extended scrappage scheme finally comes to an end I have predicted that the manufacturers will turn their attention to the fleet market and offer incentives to fleet buyers and leasing companies. Unfortunately experts don’t share my optimism, they feel that manufacturers will still be cautious and unlikely to offer more incentives than are already available with increased Read more »

Warnings Issued About Claims Management Companies (Graham Hill)

Monday, 15. February 2010

There has been an upsurge in companies known as claims management companies who claim to rid you of credit card and loan debt by claiming that contracts are ‘unenforceable’. In an investigation the BBC found that some firms were claiming very high success rates as high as 93% but when pushed could not provide evidence of anything like that. They were also accused of using misleading statements by Read more »

Government To Introduce New Sales Guidlines To Car Dealers

Friday, 12. February 2010

It would seem that the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is about to clean up the act of used car dealers (fat chance). It will be issuing new guidelines later this year when consultations are completed on 12th March. The action has been taken as a result of used car complaints topping the list of complaints received over the past 3 years by Consumer Direct, the Government’s independent advice service. In 2008 Read more »

Government Aim To Make Credit Reports Free

Thursday, 11. February 2010

The Treasury Select Committee has questioned whether individuals should be charged for copies of their credit report. At the moment it costs £2 or you can obtain a copy for free but it requires you to apply online to one of the credit reference agencies, provide credit card details as though you were going to pay monthly for anytime access, then cancel as soon as you’ve downloaded your current report, Read more »
