Well, I guess the big news of the week, and one I was waiting to break before sending out my deal of the week and updated blog, is the launch of Tesco Cars www.tescocars.com. I have been working as a consultant with Carsite, whose site has been updated to accommodate the new name and Tesco loans. The same procedure is being adopted by the new website as happened under the old scheme with car photos, HPI and inspection reports. The difference now is the addition of 2,000 clubcard points with every car Read more »

Official insignia of the European Court of Justice

If you are a woman driver expect your insurance premium to increase thanks to our Government. No I don’t mean the Cameron Clegg Coalition I mean our REAL rulers, the EU. The Court of Justice has ruled that charging drivers more because of their gender is wrong and considered discrimination. So charging men more than women was a practice that Read more »

New Accounting Standards Will Affect Lease Accounting

Monday, 14. March 2011

Last week I reported on the shambles known as the EU Consumer Credit Directive that would, without doubt, cause widespread confusion amongst consumers and small businesses (who were included in the Consumer Credit Act but not in the CCD). Trying to get the message across to customers in dealerships would result in the blind leading the blind Read more »

Positive Signs In The Vehicle Leasing Market

Saturday, 12. March 2011

According the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) we are about to see and increase in the number of banks re-entering the car finance market which would be great news for all. Although this optimism is not shared by all including me. I have seen some funding enter the vehicle finance sector, not from banks but from investment Read more »

The Real Costs And Dangers Of Electric Cars

BERLIN, GERMANY - MARCH 28: An electric Smart...

Image by Getty Images via @daylife

Even though we know the Government is hell bent on converting us to electric cars I’m still not convinced. When it was announced that the Government was going to put ÂŁ5,000 across the bonnet of electric cars to encourage drivers to buy them and Boris was going to put a free electric charging point in every parking bay making it the world’s leading Read more »

Can You Repair Run Flat Tyres?

Wednesday, 9. March 2011

Sicherheitsreifen, security tire, runflat system

Image via Wikipedia

Years ago when run flat tyres were introduced they seemed like a great idea but drivers were then told that they couldn’t mix up run flats with conventional tyres and you couldn’t get a puncture repaired. Once the tyre had been punctures, whilst the run flat would get you home the bad news was that you then needed to replace the tyre. However, I have found out that this isn’t necessarily the case. It was highlighted recently when a lady driver managed to get a nail in her run flat tyre fitted to a Read more »

Vehicle Delivery Scam Exposed

Monday, 7. March 2011

A good friend of mine reports on the crooked activities of the motor industry and has recently expressed his concerns over the direction that many of the online (bucket shop) advertisers as well as even some lenders are going. The latest scam revolves around delivery of your new car. The driver turns up with your car and an invoice for ÂŁ250 delivery charge. They even carry with them a GPS credit card terminal on which you can make the payment. They point out the charge was included in Read more »
