Worldwide Increase In Number Of Cars On The Road.

Saturday, 24. September 2011

Noticed a bit more of a jam on the way into work in the morning or maybe a little more difficulty parking in the local car park at the weekend? Probably not as the UK car parc (the number of cars on our roads) has reduced a little over the past couple of years as we have been hit by recession but the reason I mention it is that the number of cars on the roads around the world has now topped 1 billion. At the end of 2010 the number of cars reached 1.15 billion, mainly due to the 27.5% annual increase in China where 14 million new cars were bought in 2010 taking their car parc to 73.9 million, now ahead of third place Japan.

Leader with 239.8 million was the USA. Large increases were also seen in India and Brazil with the UK staying pretty static with just over 30 million cars. By Graham Hill
