Who Now Offers A 7 Year Warranty With Their Cars?

Saturday, 26. June 2010

It seems that the manufacturers are not going to fight a price war but outdo each other by providing more for free as part of the purchase package. The latest has been the extended warranty. Toyota had to react to the drop in sales following their recall problems by extending their standard warranty from 3 years to 5 years. In the meantime Kia/Hyundai have reacted following their massive growth during the scrappage scheme to steal market share from Toyota. Kia sales increased by 136% to 3.5% of the UK market whilst Toyota dropped by 8.3% to 3.8% last year. Kia now offers 7 years warranty. Toyota offered 36 months free service as an alternative to the extended warranty as many new car buyers only keep the car for 3 years so wouldn’t benefit from the warranty extension. Kia have also introduced a brake override system that would prevent the same problems that Toyota faced with their sticking throttles, not that their cars have suffered the same problem but should give peace of mind. Would you like the manufacturers to give away more or reduce car costs? Let me know. By Graham Hill
