Which Is Best Petrol Or Diesel?
Saturday, 28. November 2009
The old question of which car to choose has risen its head again as diesel has now been roughly on par with the cost of petrol for months now compared to a year ago when the difference was 13pence per litre. Whether petrol has increased to meet the cost of diesel or vice versa we’re not sure but with better fuel consumption one would assume that diesel would be more popular, however, petrol engines have been vastly improved upon. Acceleration is on par also these days although turbo lag can still be a problem with diesels. But the big difference remains the actual cost of the car which can be around £1,000 more for the diesel option. Estimates suggest that you would have to travel over 40,000 miles in a diesel to make it financially viable compared to the petrol equivalent which has clearly contributed towards the increase in petrol popularity. 2009 has seen an increase in petrol engine’d cars of 5% at the cops of diesel cars. The possibility of high cost of replacement of particulate filters on diesels has also put off potential buyers. So if you are still to make your choice between petrol and diesel it would make sense to look at the whole life cost. By Graham Hill
