VW Announces Zero Car Tax Car Golf

Monday, 16. November 2009

As cars become more efficient and manufacturers strive to avoid huge fines that will be imposed upon them by the EU if they don’t hit the CO2 reduction targets set, VW announces its first car to achieve zero VED status (that’s zero car tax to you and me). The new model which is based on the Golf 1.6TDi S 105bhp has the Blue Motion features and includes stop/start system, regenerative braking, longer gear ratios, low rolling resistance tyres, gearshift indicator and a lower ride height along with no doubt peddles and a huge instruction manual. As a result you will achieve a combined fuel consumption of 74.3 mpg and CO2 emissions of 99g/km. The car will also fall into the 13% diesel benefit in kind band making it a great company car. For the companies that still buy their cars this one will attract a 100% first year writing down allowance. Audi are following the VW lead and we can expect to see many more cars dropping into the same CO2 sector. By Graham Hill
