Volvo To Introduce New In-Car Breathalyzer That Tests Sweat
Thursday, 19. August 2010
Volvo are about to move the breathalyzer onto another level. They currently have a system called the Alcoguard breathalyser whereby you have to blow into it and be below the legal limit before you are able to start the car. The new system relies upon the driver’s sweat to monitor the level of alcohol in the system. The newly developed system is still at an early stage but Chris Wailes of Volvo said that the new technology will probably end up with sensors on the steering wheel on which you place your thumbs for the system to take a reading. The current Alcoguard technology is currently in use on public transport across some Scandinavian countries although it hasn’t yet been offered on Volvos in the UK. In New York Alcoguard style breath test kits are being fitted to the cars of all convicted drink drivers to stop them re-offending. The system remains on the car for a period of 6 months. Good idea to be fitted on all new cars? What do you think? By Graham Hill
