Being A Guarantor, Avoiding Liability & The Dangers

Sunday, 8. April 2012

Back in July 2009 I posted the following on my blog, under the heading of  ‘If you have guaranteed a debt you may be able to avoid payment’. I’ve repeated the blog below as I believe it is worth showing again, given the current economic climate but also I have uncovered something else that may be a little worrying if you have guaranteed a debt and the Read more »

Lenders Get Tougher Over Finance Applications

Monday, 24. October 2011

It seems that lenders in the vehicle finance sector are becoming more anal in the way that they are transacting business, requiring more information than ever before when applications are made in company names and becoming very tough about complete information and proofs when it comes to personal applications. This has led to customers Read more »

What Not To Do If You Have A Problem With A Dealer

Thursday, 29. September 2011

I recently had a note from someone who was having major problems with a dealership over a fault that developed in his new car. The problem was taking far too long to resolve and the client was getting very frustrated. Even contacting the manufacturer didn’t seem to work so in a fit of rage he called the finance company, who legally still owned the car, Read more »

I seem to cover this subject frequently but in case you have only recently started to see my newsletter/blog let me explain the relationship between the person advertising lease deals on the Internet, dealers and you. Anyway, going back to the round table, one of the main items on the agenda was the new EU Consumer Credit Read more »

This is illegal and flies in the face of the revised EU Block Exemption rules that came into force in 2002. In a case taken up by What Car a lady, Nocola West, had a Vauxhall Astra that developed a radiator fault that ended up putting water in the gearbox. The dealer Read more »

Car Finance Experts Get It Badly Wrong Costing Customers Dearly

Tuesday, 4. May 2010

I am, without doubt, the leading expert in car finance in the UK. However, wherever you look there are ‘experts’ who will not fail to give bad advice. This seriously winds me up because it can cost people a lot of money and in some of the worst cases, their home. It’s bad enough when this bad advice is given by well meaning friends down the pub or an accountant who is really not specialist, as I am, in vehicle finance. Read more »

New EU Cooling Off Period Rules

Tuesday, 9. February 2010

On the subject of the new EU Consumer Credit Directive there is a change to the 14 day cooling off period that is given to consumers when they sign the finance agreements off trade premises. Currently you can cancel an agreement if it is regulated under the Consumer Credit Act and signed away from the premises of the funder, the broker or the dealer. However, if you sign on trade premises you don’t have the 14 day Read more »
