Most Brits Illegally Drive Abroad
Sunday, 12. September 2010
As more Brits decided to reduce their holiday costs and drive to their European destination this year many were caught out by the different European laws that apply to safety equipment that you must carry or face an on the spot fine. In a survey carried out by Sainsbury’s Finance they found that a third weren’t aware that they needed a reflective jacket, 15% didn’t know about the need for a warning triangle. 2% said they would use a radar detector which is illegal in France. So it is important that you visit the RAC or AA sites to see what you need to load into the car in case you are stopped or you have an accident. By the way these things aren’t just nice to have they are must haves or be fined. Things such as a first aid kit and even spare bulbs. And if you think you can get away with speeding in Spain, think again as new cameras can send details of your car to the nearest patrol car and they will stop you and fine you on the spot. Have you been fined for not carrying essential safety equipment abroad? By Graham Hill
