Has The Flying Car Actually Arrived?
Friday, 12. August 2011
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it’s a car! And it’s not James Bond in the driving seat. It’s the latest car plane from the US. These ‘vehicles’ have been approved for use in the US and have now been approved for use in the UK. The cars are Terrafugia Transition and cost £155,000. They have been given clearance by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Civil Aviation Authority in the US, so the vehicle is now road and air legal – how amazing is that? Aviation experts in the UK say it’s therefore just a matter of time before we see them in the UK, some suggesting within 5 years.
In the meantime the EU is working on a rival to the US version. It is called the myCopter and is receiving £4.2 million of investment to be developed by a number of European universities.
