Graham Hill’s Famous Car Review Of An Old Model
Monday, 13. June 2011
The Graham Hill Review of a new car is actually a car that I’ve never been a big fan of but I’m going to make mention simply because it’s a survivor and there are people that see them more as a way of life rather than a simple car. The Stig is known to chew one of these after lunch to remove small food particles from between his teeth but to us it’s known as the Golf GTi (apologies to Clarkson). It’s now been about for 35 years and still manages to retain that sort of Golf look. To celebrate VW have launched an Edition 35 model with an uprated 2.0 Turbo engine that produces an additional 25bhp lifting it to 232bhp.
This will bring the 0-62 time of 6.9 seconds down a couple of tenths (oops I nearly said big deal – stop it Graham). It has a new front bumper (yawn) and a one off set of alloys, contrasting black door mirrors (like they had on the old entry Astra), part leather and 35 badges stuck all over the place with probably one for your forehead, a self tattoo ‘35’ kit and a keyring.
I wish I hadn’t started this now. Look it’s German, well made, makes your bum ache if you drive it for any length of time but happy birthday Golf GTi and let me know if you would like one I’m sure we can get you a fantastic deal! By Graham Hill
