Graham Hill, Gadget Of The Week Is A Liquid

Friday, 8. July 2011

The Graham Hill Gadget of the Week is in fact a liquid. It’s that time of year when driving more than half a mile will make it virtually impossible to see out of the windscreen as a result of bugs being splattered on the windscreen, made worse of course by the fact that you know if you splash your windscreen with windscreen wash and pass the wipers over the splodge you definitely won’t see out but you can’t help yourself, splosh, wipe, Oh Bugger! I wish I hadn’t done that! You then drive the rest of the 20 mile trip trying to see through the 2” round area of the windscreen that is still just visible through.

But help is at hand because Auto Express has reviewed spray bug removers and come up with a top three. The first place solution also removes those peculiarly coloured bird droppings which can cause all sorts of damage. You may be interested to know that you can be fined up to £1,000 for driving with impaired vision.

In first place was Simoniz Bug Shifter, £4.99 for a 500ml bottle, second and best value was Car Plan’s Bug Blitz at £2.98 for 750ml, third was Gunk’s Tar n Bug Remover at £2.99 for a 250ml can. Other 4* winners were Halford’s Bug & Tar Remover, £3.99 for 500ml and Armor All Insect Remover at £4.99 per 500ml.

So get a bottle and stick it in the boot along with a cloth. Make sure that there are no leaks in the bottle as it generally contains alcohol and you don’t want that leaking into the cabin. By Graham Hill
