Deer’s Cause Amazing Number Of Accidents.

Wednesday, 2. November 2011

A couple of weeks ago I was on my way out, driving down a road populated with some rather large houses but still a fairly built up area. When suddenly from nowhere three deer pranced across the road in front of me. Deer are known to be pretty dopey so their knowledge of the highway code is pretty limited which means that us motorists have to be at all times on our guard, just in case. Having said that I was shocked to read that deer cause as many as 74,000 road accidents every year. Even more staggering was the fact that the deer population in the UK has jumped (get it) to two million over the last 10 years, more than doubling the deer population.

And these are only estimated numbers of accident as the Deer Initiative, a group of charities and government agencies, said that many of the accidents do not get reported thus making the calculation of precise figures impossible.
