Saturday, 19. September 2009

If you buy my book, An Insider Guide To Car Finance, you receive a free book on general hints, tips and safety. One of the things I cover is setting the headrest at the correct height. Recession Leads To Dangerous Driving

Tuesday, 15. September 2009

Apparently the use of hand held phones whilst driving has increased because of, wait for it, the recession! Yep, it’s true according to a survey carried out by ING Car Lease. Apparently more drivers who drive cars on business feel under pressure to receive and make calls when driving rather than miss important calls that may result in Read more »

Car Safety Systems Explained

Friday, 11. September 2009

Whilst on the subject of safety and collision avoidance, I’m often asked what certain expressions mean when I mention them in car specs that I send out in my video car deal of the week. So to help out here are a few quick summaries:

ABS: Anti Lock Braking system, this prevents the wheels from locking under heavy braking. The disc pads grip the disc, then release then grip again but very fast thus preventing a skid and allowing the driver to steer whilst braking without skidding. It sounds like a machine gun when it operates.

EBD or EBFD: Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, this system varies the amount Read more »

Safety Device That Truly Saves Lives

Thursday, 10. September 2009

If you are not aware of ESP or Electronic Stability Program (also known as ESC Electronic Stability Control) you must be new to my newsletter and never watched one of my new car videos. If you are aware of ESP you will know that I go on about it constantly because I truly believe that it should be fitted as standard on all cars now and not in a few years (2014) as has now been insisted upon by the EC. Around the world 1.4 million people die in Read more »

Tyre Damage Costing Drivers Dearly

Sunday, 6. September 2009

Following a survey carried out by ATS Euromaster it has been found that large numbers of tyres are having to be replaced prematurely as a result of damage that could be avoided. In fact 1 in 5 tyres were found to be replaced early in a survey that involved 100,000 vehicles. The main causes of avoidable damage were punctures (31%), sidewall damage (27%) and drivers exceeding the 50mile/50mph rule when run flat tyres are fitted. Not sure how you avoid a puncture but obviously the boys at Read more »

First Corporate Manslaughter Case To Go To Court

Wednesday, 2. September 2009

Corporate Manslaughter has now become real with the announcement that the first trial, as a result of charges under the Corporate Manslaughter Act, will take place next February and should serve as a wake up call to businesses that think it could never happen to them. Cotswold Geotechnical Holdings have been charged for breaches of the Act along with breach of section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act following the death of junior geologist, Alexander Wright on 5th September 2008. Wright was Read more »

Take Care Of Your Particulate Filters

Sunday, 30. August 2009

If you drive a diesel car you probably know that it is fitted with a particulate filter. It is there to remove the dangerous particulates from the emission gasses. Some believe that particulates cause more damage to the environment than CO2, hence the importance of having particulate filters fitted. But they are prone to clog up with the particulates, however, they are made to effectively self clean. It is important that you Read more »

Car Safety Moves Up To Another Level

Tuesday, 25. August 2009

Just as I see many more manufacturers embrace the ESP/ESC safety systems that help you to avoid an accident a new one emerges called FlexRay which is apparently set to become the new standard in safety devices moving us closer to the time when we don’t actually have to drive cars, just programme them and they get on and do it whilst we sit back and enjoy our freshly brewed Earl Grey and munch on a few choccy Hob Nobs whilst reading my blog FAQ’s received via your communications interface. It may all seem Read more »

Maintaining Used Cars Has Never Been More Expensive

Friday, 21. August 2009

Thinking of taking a used car next time? Over 8 million drivers do each year. The reasons for moving from a new car to a used car vary, maybe you’ve lost your company car through redundancy or a cash for car scheme or maybe you have seen the low prices that 2 and 3 year old cars have fallen to and would look to save some money, but after a friend of mine lost his Renault Megane for nearly two days in order to have his clutch replaced it reminded me that we are living in a throwaway society. Things don’t Read more »

Does The Recession Result In Unsafe Cars?

Sunday, 16. August 2009

Whilst there are a few vague signs coming out of Germany, France and Japan that we may be moving out of the world recession we have no such signs in the UK and whilst people are still being made redundant and reducing work hours there are fears that the UK roads are becoming more dangerous as drivers avoid service and repair costs. One of the biggest dangers lies with Read more »
