The Dangers Of Being Distracted When Driving

Wednesday, 12. August 2009

When I first started driving the most technical pieces of equipment in my car were the window winders and the optional heater, that was either on or off. Radios were not standard equipment and cassette players were somewhat futuristic. So other than your passengers, there were very few distractions inside the cockpit of your car, added to which, if you were anywhere north of Watford you could drive for 3 days and still not come into contact with another driver. These days things are different, there are 30 million cars registered and many of those Read more »

Drivers Are Still Flouting The Mobile Phone Laws

Sunday, 9. August 2009

What Car have reminded us of the dangers of using a phone whilst driving. They have estimated that around 100,000 drivers are risking their lives and prosecution, at any point in time, by using a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving. The original laws introduced in 2003 were beefed up in 2007 to guarantee you 3 points on your licence and a £60 fine if caught using a mobile phone whilst driving (which means the engine is running even though you may not be moving). As What Car points out, even with hands free kits Read more »

Warnings Issued About Providing False Car Insurance Info

Saturday, 25. July 2009

As drivers continue to feel the pinch of recession insurance groups warn about the dangers of not telling the truth when taking out car insurance. Every claim is now being closely scrutinised as a result in the upsurge in fraudulent claims, as explained in my recent crash for cash fraud item. As a result lies or mistakes made at the time of proposal is causing claims to be rejected so great care needs to be taken when completing proposals or you may not only find a claim rejected but Read more »

Drivers Are Not Getting Their Eyes Checked

Monday, 16. March 2009

They say ‘it’ sends you blind – whatever ‘it’ is. But whatever ‘it’ is it seems to affect middle aged drivers as one in five drive their cars knowing that their eyesight is impaired according to the College of Optometrists. The study also revealed that 28% of these blind old duffers put off having a sight test for up to 6 months after noticing their eyesight had deteriorated and a startling 21% put it off for up to 5 years, probably because they can’t find their local Specsavers. ‘This attitude is extremely worrying’ said Dr Susan Blakeney, optometric adviser to the College of Optometrists. I agree. By Graham Hill

Saturday, 14. March 2009

Calls for a total mobile phone ban have come from safety experts following a landmark case. Unreliable Police Intoximeters Could Overturn Convictions

Wednesday, 4. March 2009

Specialist law firm, Driving Defences LLP have said that thousands of convictions of failing to provide a specimen could be overturned due to questions over the reliability of the police intoximeter machine. They brought a successful case in which it was proven that due to an error made by the police, a defendant could not possibly have provided a sample of breath. Martin Hammond, a solicitor at the practice, said Read more »

Latest Way For Thieves To Steal Your Car

Sunday, 22. February 2009

Car crime statistics are misleading and could be causing drivers to be complacent according to vehicle security provider Cobra. Contrary to Home Office statistics which show car thefts falling, believed to be as a result of more cars being fitted with anti theft devices as standard, more surveillance cameras and more local community police, Cobra’s survey suggested quite the opposite with car crime still on the Read more »

Drink Driving Proposals To Upset Drinkers

Wednesday, 18. February 2009

A recent poll showed that 61% of motorists would not welcome a drop of acceptable drink driving levels from 80mg to the more common 50mg but that is probably because of the draconian punishment handed out if over the limit. If you are guilty of driving even slightly over the limit in the UK you are automatically facing a 12 month ban whilst in some countries in the EU the chances of being caught in the first Read more »

Work Pressure Can Kill Employees

Tuesday, 17. February 2009

There has been a marked increase in the number of drivers talking on mobile phones whilst driving. The reason has been put down to increased work pressure by employers on employees who fear that missing critical calls or failing to call back customers could cost the company orders. The employees are doing it, even though they know it’s illegal, because they also need the commission. The sad fact is that Read more »

New Insurance Legislation You MUST Know

Sunday, 15. February 2009

Insurance rules are about to change as a result of proposed legislation that is going through the consultative stage. If introduced it will become an offence simply to keep an uninsured vehicle as opposed to the current legislation that makes it an offence to drive an uninsured vehicle. Road safety minister, Jim Fitzpatrick, said ‘Increased police powers already mean that 400 uninsured vehicles are seized every day Read more »
