We have such short memories! I remember the furore when petrol prices hit 119.7pence per litre 2 years ago. Fuel suppliers were challenged and emails flew around in all directions telling everyone to boycott the main oil companies in an attempt to force petrol suppliers to drop their prices. At the time oil prices were $147 per barrel but with exchange rates at about 2 dollars to the pound it put the price per barrel at Read more »

To say that Toyota have had a bit of a rough time is somewhat of an understatement and the repercussions continue on. After they dismissed cars flying across roundabouts and over cliffs, having been unable to stop following uncontrolled acceleration, as being a problem with dopey drivers being unable to fit carpet mats back in their cars after cleaning them, they have paid a hefty price. That ‘bigotgate’ moment Read more »

There are now 3 EU research projects under way to trial ‘talking’ cars, which can communicate with each other and road infrastructure such as traffic signs, lights and congestion management centres. Vehicles will receive information about hazards ahead such as congestion, accidents, oil spills, potholes, debris etc. Drivers will then be alerted by dashboard communications. Developed into prototypes by three Read more »

I like to bring you hot news every week. You will recall my summary of the last budget. With notepad in hand I was watching Darling on TV but unfortunately I fell asleep leaving me nothing to report. However, this week I’m determined to make amends. I want to give you an insight into the latest developments and of course an in depth report on all the major features of the very latest models to be launched by the manufacturers. So in that informative vein I’m announcing the launch of the all new Ford Focus – it looks like an Astra! By Graham Hill

Oh dear! I reported a few weeks ago that Aston Martin were soon to launch a new city car, the Cygnet, based on the Toyota IQ. The likely price when it will actually go on sale later this year is £30,000 for those dopey enough to want to spend this ridiculous amount of money for what is really a Toyota IQ with a few extra bits on, including the famous, and all important, badge on the bonnet. If all this wasn’t ridiculous Read more »

Road safety charity Brake carried out a poll to see how much support existed for the dropping of the drink drive alcohol limit from 80mg per 100 ml to 50, in line with most of Europe. Their findings showed a 70% support which has prompted the Government to take action and consider dropping the level which would criminalise the Sunday pint in a country pub according to an article in Auto Express. But they Read more »

Motor Codes, the body responsible for producing a National code of practice for servicing and repairs, have called for a single computer database containing every vehicle’s service record to be created to prevent crooks faking car service histories in order to inflate the car’s value. The call was made after it was found that it was possible to guy fake service books and ink stamps online on eBay. Auto Express Read more »

Are you a big Ferrari fan? If so I’ve found the perfect holiday for you. It’s Abu Dhabi. They have built a theme park dedicated completely to Ferrari. They have a rollercoaster modelled on the F430 with the cars literally cornering on rails at speeds of up to 125 miles per hour. It will be called Ferrari World and is completely under cover in an area equivalent to 4 times London’s Wembley Arena. It will open in the autumn Read more »

I raised the issue of digital radios many weeks ago but a few commentators are now starting to pick up on the fact that there has been a change in legislation which will follow the introduction and adoption of The Digital Economy Bill. Amongst other directives it rules that radios will be digital from 2015. Now correct me if I’m wrong but that’s only 5 years away. So knowing that this was going to be the case Read more »

We expect to see some changes in ownership of car manufacturers as we come out of recession, the latest of which is the increased ownership of Chrysler by Fiat. The deal will include Jeep and Dodge. Fiat took a 20% stake in ailing Chrysler last summer and have announced an increase in their stake to 35% if targets are met over the next 2 years. Chrysler registrations were down by 42.8% last year over 2008. Future Read more »
