Latest Revenue Approved Mileage Allowance Payments

Tuesday, 1. July 2008

The Government has announced that it will not be adjusting the Approved Mileage Allowance Payments (AMAP) which are paid to 4 million employees who drive their own cars for work even though we have seen some swingeing increases in fuel costs since the rates were introduced at the current level 6 years ago. After a 12 month review HM Revenue and Customs announced that the rates would remain the same at Read more »

Are Diesel Cars Cheaper To Run Than Petrol?

Monday, 30. June 2008

For those that lease diesel cars they aren’t aware that the cost of a diesel car is generally still more than a petrol equivalent as the higher cost of the car is more than offset by the much higher resale value of a diesel car at the end of the lease making the diesel cheaper in monthly costs than the petrol equivalent. However, we are starting to see a change as used diesel cars fall out of favour as the difference between petrol and diesel at the pumps continues to increase. Backing this up is research by EurotaxGlass (Glass’s Guide) which shows Read more »

Long Deliveries Affecting Rates

Friday, 27. June 2008

Deliveries are becoming a nightmare, I have today been given a further delay on a VW Golf with the new 1.4 engine that was ordered on the 1st February 2008 with an estimated lead time of 12 weeks. Delivery is currently expected to be end of August to the dealer. Whilst this situation is exceptional, explained by VW as being the result of amazingĀ International demand for the smaller engine that can be tuned to produce 170 BHP, long lead times are not uncommon. However, most funders will Read more »

Yet More Misleading Information In The Press On PCP

Friday, 13. June 2008

Staying on these two misleading articles they also point to the dangers of taking finance on cars and the problems faced by those who want to get out of their current large or gas guzzling cars and into smaller more efficient cars but are unable to because of the negative equity position with the settlement costs being far in excess of the resale value of the car on finance, ie. negative equity. The drivers are therefore left with cars that they don’t want to drive because they have no way out of the finance. Again this is a generalisation that simply isn’t Read more »

The Press Giveout Misleading Info On PCP’s

Thursday, 12. June 2008

If you are one of those that has downloaded my introductory video on my vehicle finance training you will know that I have very little faith in the ability of the press to provide proper advice on vehicle finance, in fact I said that some of their advice is criminally misleading. However you expect the Times and Telegraph to at least do some basic research before throwing misleading information onto their online sites. You expect rubbish from the popular press but not from the more upmarket news and information providers. So what is it that has made me so angry? Read more »
