After reporting a few weeks ago that the Government was not going ahead with roadside drug testing equipment we now learn that after the police stopped a million motorists across 29 countries and tested for drink and drugs it has resulted in Britain being found to have the worst drug problem in Europe. Almost 250 motorists were found to have illegal drugs in their systems in the UK.

Ireland topped the table with 13% found to have illegal drugs in them and over the limit. England and Switzerland tied for second place on 6%.

Whilst the coalition Government promised that all police forces would be equipped with roadside testing kits before the election they made a U turn within weeks of coming into power and ditched the idea.

This now means that the police have to rely on the old methods of testing for drugs which includes standing on one leg. Should the Government think again about the drugalyser and should the police now be issued with the kit given the findings of this report.
