Got a 4WD car, then expect to have it stolen! According to stolen vehicle recovery company, Tracker, SUV’s, especially the top of the range cars, head up the list of cars most likely to be nicked! Top of the stolen car list in 2010 was the BMW X5 followed very closely by the Range Rover. In third and fourth place were performance cars, the BMW M3 (third) and the Audi RS4 (fourth). I should point out that the report only included cars that were fitted with the Tracker devices.

However the police agreed with the findings saying that it is the high end, valuable cars that the crooks target, often stealing cars to customer order then immediately shipping abroad.

However, some crooks are now helping the police to catch them, when they recovered a 7 Series BMW recently, after being stolen from fashion designer Basia Zarzycka, they found that the crook had very obligingly punched into the sat nav a destination in Lithuania.

The thieves had used the increasingly common technique of steeling the keys from her house using a wire coat hanger tied to a bamboo cane. As a final warning Tracker said that 84% of all thefts of cars fitted with trackers are carried out with the use of stolen keys. Had a car stolen? Tell us what happened. By Graham Hill
