How To Re-set Service Lights
Thursday, 19. November 2009
Under the new EU Block Exemption rules you can now have your car serviced at any recognised service garage provided the quality of service matches that laid down by the manufacturer. I still recommend that original manufacturer parts are used but this isn’t necessary provided they meet original spec. However, a problem exists with the service lights that warn you when a car is due for service. Some service agents are able to do this for you but if they can’t, or don’t know how, you could be driving around with service warnings constantly in your face. However, after believing that this is very sophisticated and requires computers to reset the lights it would seem, after a little research, that this may not be the case. It’s simply a case of switching the ignition off and on whilst holding down a button. I found a website that provides some information on various cars, including BMW and Audi. You can view it here: http://www.gendan.co.uk/article_6.html It doesn’t list Mercedes which I found out to be as follows:
Service Light Reset – Mercedes C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLK
Using the button located on the left hand side of instrument cluster.
Switch ignition on and immediately press button twice.
Switch ignition off.
Press and hold button while switching ignition on.
After 10 seconds the new interval will appear in the display.
Release button.
I take no responsibility if you should try the above, or anything on the site I have linked to, that results in any damage to your car. Not that it will but you would expect me to cover my bottom wouldn’t you. By Graham Hill
